Australia goalkeeper Beach joins Ligue 1 club after strong World Cup

French outlet L'Equipe reported over the weekend that Troyes have signed the 22-year-old on a 5-year deal running through to the end of the 2030-31 season. It will be Beach's first move outside Australia after 5 years playing at home.

He spent that time with Central Coast Mariners and Melbourne City, making 21 appearances in the NPL and 53 in the A-League across spells from 2021 to 2026.

Troyes are back in Ligue 1 after winning Ligue 2 by 4 points ahead of fellow promoted side Le Mans. The move also makes sense on a practical level. Both Troyes and Melbourne City sit under the City Football Group umbrella, and CFG have moved players between their clubs before.

So this is not coming out of nowhere. Beach's stock rose fast during the World Cup. He was a surprise starter for Australia in the opener against Turkey and ended up being named man of the match after making 8 saves in a 2-0 win. He was rated 9.1 for that display.

He stayed in goal for 390 minutes at the tournament and only conceded 3 times before Maty Ryan came back in for the penalty shootout defeat to Egypt in the last 32. Across the whole tournament, Beach averaged a 7.3 rating, second only to Alessandro Circati among Australia's players.

That was enough to turn a good tournament into a move abroad. In a statement confirming his exit, Beach thanked Melbourne City for helping shape both his career and his life.

"The past 3 years at Melbourne City have shaped me enormously, both as a player and as a person," he said. "This club gave me the chance to push myself every day, improve my game and ultimately achieve my dream of representing the Socceroos and Australia at a World Cup. I will always be incredibly grateful for that."

He also thanked teammates, coaches, staff and supporters, saying he would leave with friendships and memories he would carry for life.

The fee Troyes paid has not been disclosed. Beach's market value is estimated at around A$1.6 million, roughly €1 million, after his World Cup performances. It is a big step, but one that feels earned.
