Barcelona win on the night but crash out against Atletico Madrid in Champions League.

The game came alive almost from the first whistle. After only 33 seconds, Atletico goalkeeper Juan Musso was forced into a superb save, diving full length to his right to push away a curling effort from Lamine Yamal. It set the tone for a fast start from Barcelona, who arrived knowing they had little time to waste. 

That early pressure quickly turned into a goal. In the fourth minute, a defensive lapse from Atletico allowed Ferran Torres to pick out the unmarked Lamine inside the box, and the teenager made no mistake with the finish. Barcelona were ahead on the night, and for a while , the atmosphere inside the stadium felt uncertain as the visitors began to take control of possession and pin Atletico back. 

The tension only increased when another mistake from the home side, this time involving Koke, gave Barcelona another opening. Torres took full advantage, producing an excellent left-footed strike into the top corner to level the aggregate score. Atletico suddenly looked shaken, while Barcelona sensed the tie was there to be won. 

They nearly took complete control less than a minute later. Fermin Lopez rose well to meet a cross, but his header went straight at Musso. In the aftermath, Musso's attempted clearance struck Fermin in the face, which led to a lengthy stoppage and broke the rhythm of the contest at a time when Barcelona were on top. 

That pause helped Atletico regroup, and not long after play resumed, they struck back. Ademola Lookman found himself with a simple finish after another defensive lapse from Barcelona, restoring Atletico's advantage and shifting the momentum once again. The goal also extended an unwanted record for the visitors, who became the first side in Champions League history to go 15 straight matches without keeping a clean sheet. 

The pattern of the match remained similar after the break. Atletico dropped deeper and reshaped into a back five, inviting pressure and looking to break quickly with long forward passes. Barcelona had the ball for long periods, but Atletico were happy to defend their space and wait for moments to counter. It was not always comfortable, but it suited Diego Simeone's side. 

Barcelona thought they had found a way back when Torres reacted sharply to volley home under pressure, only for VAR to intervene and rule the goal out for offside. The decision sparked huge celebrations among the home support and felt like another key moment in a tie full of them. 

Lamine remained Barcelona's main threat throughout, at the heart of almost every dangerous attack, but the longer the game went on, the more Atletico looked capable of managing it. Joan Garcia then produced a fine close-range save to deny Robin Le Normand and keep Barcelona alive, but their hopes suffered a major blow with just over 10 minutes remaining when Eric Garcia was sent off for a professional foul. 

Down to 10 men, Barcelona still pushed forward in the closing stages, throwing everything into attack in an attempt to force extra time. But Atletico held firm and saw out the result, extending a remarkable record in the competition. They have now never been knocked out in a Champions League knockout tie after winning the first leg away from home, a run that now stands at 22 occasions. 

For Barcelona, it was another painful European exit. They have now lost seven of their last 10 Champions League quarter-final ties, and with their continental campaign over, all attention will now turn to the La Liga title race.
