What's new in FA Cup 2026/27?
The FA Cup continues to use a knockout format rather than a league table. Clubs enter the competition at different stages depending on their position in the English football pyramid, with the early rounds providing opportunities for teams from the lower levels to compete against stronger opponents. The 2026/27 competition begins with the Extra Preliminary Round, which features 219 ties, before progressing through qualifying and the proper rounds.
The road to Wembley includes four qualifying rounds followed by the First Round Proper, with Premier League and Championship clubs joining the competition at later stages. The tournament then moves through the Second, Third, Fourth and Fifth Rounds before the quarter-finals, semi-finals and final. The 2026/27 FA Cup final is scheduled for Saturday 22 May 2027 at Wembley Stadium.
