The UEFA Conference League is Europe's third-tier men's club football competition, giving clubs from across the continent the opportunity to compete for a major European trophy. The 2026/27 edition is the sixth season of the competition and the third to use the current league phase format. The previous campaign concluded with Strasbourg winning the 2025/26 title, while the 2026/27 final is scheduled to take place at Beşiktaş Park in Istanbul.
What's new in Europa Conference League 2026/27?
Unlike domestic leagues, the Conference League does not have a fixed group of clubs competing throughout the season. All 36 teams that reach the league phase must come through the qualifying rounds, with no club receiving direct entry. The qualifying path is determined by UEFA association club coefficient rankings, and all qualifying ties are played over two legs.
The league phase features 36 teams, with each club playing six matches against six different opponents. The top eight teams progress directly to the round of 16, while clubs finishing from ninth to 24th enter the knockout phase play-offs. Teams ranked 25th to 36th are eliminated from the competition.
The tournament also offers an important reward for its eventual winner. The 2026/27 Conference League champions will earn a place in the league phase of the 2027/28 Europa League, provided they have not already qualified for the Champions League or Europa League through their domestic competition.
