Ramos and Milan settle nerves with 2-0 victory against promoted Venezia

The result also ended Milan's 4-match winless run at home and left newly promoted Venezia still waiting for their 1st point of the season.

Before kick-off, tributes were paid to the late Franco Baresi, and while Milan's defending at times reflected the spirit of the club legend, their attacking play took much longer to settle.

Ramos was involved early. Samuel Chukwueze slipped him through in the 12th minute, but the flag went up for offside and, in any case, Filip Stankovic was out sharply to deny him with a strong right hand.

John Yeboah sent Akor Adams through as the visitors tried to test Milan's level, but Chukwueze got back well to recover and help Mike Maignan gather. Soon after, Ridgeciano Haps caused more trouble with a cross that bounced awkwardly in the area before falling to Yeboah, whose shot was brilliantly blocked by Strahinja Pavlovic.

To their credit, Amorim's side regained some control, but Stankovic kept frustrating them. Ramos was denied again from 10 metres, and by the closing stages of the half both he and Koni De Winter had passed up good openings. Chukwueze also forced another save from the Venezia keeper before the break.

It was one of those games where Milan were on top without looking fully comfortable.

Venezia's away record from their previous Serie A spell already suggested this would be difficult, and for a while it looked as if they might drag things deep into the night again. Yunus Musah should really have done better when he hit the bar from 4 metres after the visitors struggled to clear a Luka Modric set piece.

Giovanni Stroppa's side kept pushing for moments of their own, and when Adams found room in the box later on, Mario Gila had to step in with a vital block to preserve the deadlock.

Only 2 minutes later, Milan finally found the breakthrough. Alexis Saelemaekers broke down the left, cut inside and picked out Ramos, who drilled a low finish into the bottom corner to open his account for the club.

With the pressure lifted, Milan controlled the final 20 minutes much better and eventually added a 2nd goal. Ardon Jashari was slipped in behind the defence and, although Stankovic saved his effort, the rebound ricocheted in off retreating defender Redouane Halhal for an own goal.

Milan have now won this fixture by at least 2 goals for the 6th straight time, while Venezia's miserable away run stretches on, with no win in 27 such matches.
