Brown scores on debut as Bayern beat 10-man Dortmund to lift Super Cup

The result gave Bayern their 12th Super Cup title and extended Dortmund's recent misery in the fixture, with BVB now having lost more than half of their home Super Cup appearances, all of them against Bayern.

This was the 140th edition of Der Klassiker, and both sides began with real energy. Dortmund, despite losing 4 of their last 5 Super Cup appearances, showed little sign of anxiety early on and almost found an opener when Konstantinos Karetsas produced a dangerous ball that nearly released Serhou Guirassy.

But once Bayern settled, they took control. After a spell of pressure, the visitors broke through when Brown collected a pass from Michael Olise and fired quickly past Gregor Kobel, a dream start for the new signing and a sharp reminder of Bayern's attacking quality.

Bayern had already won both league meetings between the clubs last season, and they looked the more composed side through most of the first half. Ramy Bensebaini got a deft touch to a deep free-kick, but the flag denied him and the goal was ruled out for offside. That let Bayern off the hook and gave them the chance to hit again before the break.

After Brown had threatened once more, Olise pounced on a poor pass from Jobe Bellingham, strode into the box and finished calmly to put Bayern 2-0 up.

Dortmund did try to respond after half-time, with Manuel Neuer needing to stay alert to deal with another dangerous Karetsas effort. Still, as the hour mark came and went, Niko Kovac's side remained 2 goals down and had to roll the dice with a triple substitution.

Bayern had not kept a clean sheet in this fixture since 2023, and with 15 minutes left Fabio Silva made sure that run continued by converting Daniel Svensson's cut-back to reduce the deficit.

A brief late lapse from Neuer almost gifted Bellingham an empty-net chance before the Bayern keeper recovered his focus, and for a moment Dortmund looked capable of forcing real late chaos.

Bensebaini then ended up making things even harder for the hosts. His straight red card for a reckless challenge seemed to kill the comeback, although Maximilian Beier still had 1 final opening for BVB and could not take it.

So Dortmund's wait to add to their 6 Super Cup titles goes on, while Vincent Kompany begins the season with silverware before Bayern open their Bundesliga title defence at home to Stuttgart.
